Appeal for better consultation
The Epping Society submitted a substantial response to the consultation for the draft Local Plan, 2016. Unfortunately, when members or the public search the EFDC web pages to find out what we said they will not be able to find out.
In January and again in March we drew this to the Council’s attention. The only record of our response was a covering letter published under the name of our then Chairman, Andrew Smith. Although EFDC appear to have published our 2018 responses in full they are again hidden under Andrew’s name.
This is despite EFDC listing comments from commercial businesses in their names, such as: Aberdeen Asset Management, Anglian Water Services Ltd, McCarthy & Stone and Barratt David Wilson Homes. If those organisations can be identified why not also for The Epping Society?
We speak for our members and for many others who have attended our public meetings and supported our responses. The public needs to know that as a respected organisation (as we modestly regard ourselves) are on their side and they are not on their own in the face of the planning authority.
Our request for an assurance that this will be corrected has not been received.
Extended consultation period
Following litigation which alleges the EFDC local plan process was defective, a further consultation period has been opened from their undated announcement until April 23. We have found that most people do not know this is available. It appears that individuals who replied to the consultation have not been told, and nor has any publicity been used to inform the public generally.
Subsequent to the earlier consultation period many additional documents have been published, certain of which were highly material in any consideration of the proposals and to which the public have not been able to respond.
We have asked EFDC to publicise and extend the current consultation but we have received no such assurance.
